Thank You, and A Preview of Things to Come

Welcome, and Thank You!

I want to thank each and every one of you for visiting our new site here at The Reloaders Network!  This site has only been operational for a few days, but already we are looking to the future, and I want to tell you a little about that.

This Site Is….Different

Most of you came here looking for videos, and I acknowledge that navigating this site is a little different than navigating most online video sites.  It will take a little bit of getting used to, and there will be some growing pains.  The content and information is here, but I will continue to refine how it is presented, and how you can best find what you are looking for.

You have probably noticed as well that some of the posts are more than just video.  Most of the posts here will likely contain videos, but the format of this site allows content creators (authors) to bring you written content, pictures, and videos, or a mix of those together.

We’re Not A Video Hosting Site

We are bringing you a bunch of content, but are not actually hosting any videos on our servers.  We are embedding videos from other sites into our posts.  What this means is that the people creating the videos are uploading them to servers belonging to one of the dozens of sites such a YouTube, Vimeo, or DailyMotion.  We are then including some code in our webpages that allows us to show you that video without ever leaving this site, even though it is not stored on our servers.

“One-Stop Shopping”

This approach allows us to aggregate outstanding content from all over the Web, and bring it to you in a consolidated and integrated place.  You can stay up to date with your favorite online content creators without having to chase them all over the Internet.

As we have seen very recently, sites close down, they change their policies, and any number of other things can and will happen, causing the content creators to have to find new solutions to be able to bring their videos and other information to you, their viewers.  The fact that we do not host our own videos, but instead can embed videos from many other sites, is actually an advantage.  We are not reliant on any one service provider – we have options!  Since all of that information is brought together here at The Reloaders Network, you won’t have to visit all of those other sites to stay up to date.  As long as the content creators continue to provide their updates here, you’ll have everything you’re looking for in one place!

The Way Forward

I have a list of things I want to accomplish for this site and for this community.  Some of those are my tasks, and some I need your help with.

  • Subscriptions

The number one item on my list is enabling the ability for viewers to “follow” or “subscribe” to their favorite authors.  Currently the posts from every author show up in the same feed.  It’s easy to navigate to the feed for any particular author, but currently there is no way to subscribe to your favorite authors so that your “latest posts” feed and your notifications are based on your subscriptions.  This isn’t really an issue right now, but as we begin to have more and more authors join the site, this will turn into chaos, so I am attempting to enable this feature as soon as I can.

  • Site Design

I like the current site design….but I don’t love it.  I just spent a couple of minutes doing a mock-up of a new layout, and here’s what I have at the moment:

Thank You, and A Preview of Things to Come 1

I do not have an estimate on how long it will be before any changes will be made, but you can be certain that I am working on it.  I am certainly open to any input you may have.

  • Logo

And now, this is where I need your help.  We need to have an official “The Reloaders Network” logo.  I would love to hear ideas and see submissions for potential designs.  You don’t have to be an artist; if you can describe a design, I can have a service do the artwork.  I want to have something simple, but also something that anyone in the casting, reloading, and/or firearms and shooting community can identify with.  If I get several good submissions, I will figure out a way for the community to vote on it.

Spread the Word

I need your help getting the word out!  Tell your friends about this place.  Tell your favorite content creators that you would appreciate seeing their content here.  And, if you have opportunity, tell your favorite companies and vendors that you would like to see their support here as well.

Thank You!

Thank you again for visiting this site, and for being a part of this Network and this outstanding community.  I’m excited for what we have, and I’m really looking forward to what we, together, will accomplish!

Sincerely,

-Loads of Bacon

“Posts from the Press”?

Loads of Bacon, I like the new site design that you propose above better. It addresses the main shortcoming that I see today, which is the huge amount of screen real estate that a single post takes up. Means that the user must do a lot of scrolling.

Another suggestion: In the top menu, rename “Reloading Press” to “Posts”. It makes the navigation more obvious to new users.
