Recycling factory 45LC ammunition

I recorded most of this video more than six months ago, but I am just now finishing it and posting it.

The cylinder throats on my EAA Big Bore Bounty Hunter .45 Colt revolver measure .4565″. The factory lead bullets are smaller than that which leads to leading and inaccuracy. I decided to reuse the components of some factory ammunition I had on hand, but improve the performance in my revolver with my own cast bullets which measure .457″.

Thank you for the bullet puller idea – I know I’ll use that soon. I’m curious if powder coating those bullets would make them shoot better and address the leading issue – – – I guess you’d have to pull them some other way, though.

Another great video! Its crazy how little powder goes in that big ole case. Do you guys try looking for bulkier powders to get a little more case fill? Seems like Unique would be good for this cartridge.

Umm… That Bullet Puller is looking awfully EARRL.

You need a sizer that stretches bullets wider… A Couple Whacks with a hammer thru a die should work work to make them short & stubby.

Love 45 colt! Favorite pistol round. 3 rugers and one Colt. All .452 though. Good vid!

Just out of curiosity, do you know that gun’s bore diameter? I’m sizing my 45 bullets to .452 and when dropped into the cylinder they fall down smoothly and stop before falling out and they won’t even start to go into the barrel.
