NEW Lee Safety Prime, updated yet again. Looks like version 3.0… So far, so good!

I wanted to let all the Lee press users know that Lee has recently updated (fixed) their Safety Prime dispensers.  By my count this is the third update to the Safety Prime levers.   The second version was a complete failure and possibly unsafe which is probably why Lee kinda just snuck these new ones into the market.   Be careful if you order because they are still using the old part number, I assume there is a risk of getting old stock.

They beefed up the arm so it doesn’t separate and twist like it did before.  I actually had primers flip over sideways in the tube and even seated one that way.

The trigger assembly is completely redone and very easy to operate.   No more cupping your free hand under the press to catch dropped primers…So far, they have worked flawlessly for me.

Here’s a short video on the subject:

I agree 100%. If you’ve been frustrated with the previous versions of the Safety Prime, you owe it to yourself to try this one. I set it up and used it for the first time today and didn’t drop a single primer in the 150+ rounds that I loaded.

As an update to my original post about the Safety Prime version 3.0, I’ve now used it to load over 3000 rounds of 9mm on my LCT and I know this may be hard to believe but not one single dropped primer, even when not exercising a lot of care and intentionally trying to misfeed the primer arm. Lee definitely got it right this time.

I’ve not used the on-press Safety Prime, but I’m doing the Breechlock Challenger single stage. I have however had problems with the Lee Hand Primer flipping primers, especially when priming 233. I’ve installed a couple primers crushed sideways as well, without detonation. Thus far I’ve just put up with it and exercised more diligence.

I buy the used, old style Lee hand primers off Ebay. The newer models suck bad. I wear the old ones out, then find another old one. I just got two, hardly used still in the box for about 25 bucks shipped. They work great, but one of the internal pieces that takes a lot of the force eventually deforms and the primers no longer seat deep enough…Lee doesn’t make or sell that part anymore.

Now I just need to replace my powder measure that I broke…

Hey TreeTop. This a quick followup to my post on the YouTube version of this video. When I went to buy this I checked Amazon one last time and lo and behold their picture showed the new version. So with Prime free shipping it came out to about $14 less than Lee even with their cheapest shipping option. I love Lee and how they take such great care of their customers, but that’s too big a difference to ignore. Plus I still bought their product. So, rationalization aside, it’s coming Friday. I’ll let you know what I think.

Thanks for this video/article. It’s a little vindication for me. Praise the Lord I’m not the only one! Thanks again, Tree!
