The Basics of Reloading for the M1 Garand – Watch your Op-Rod

A follow-up video about the M1 Garand and things to consider when you are handloading for this rifle. This is not an all encompassing video about reloading for the M1 Garand, just some basics and clarifications about my last video.
The M1 Garand gas system was designed for specific weight bullets and specific powder pressures. If the system is over pressured it will damage the operating rod and the gun will not be functional.

When I obtained my M1 Garand 25 years ago, I reloaded for it one time, using match grade bullets 155 grains and with that hand load @ 100 yards, it was at 1″ group…I had the barrel checked for how many rounds fired through the barrel and it was between 9,000-10,000 rounds. A guy I once knew was a match grade shooter at Camp Perry, so he had all the tools for checking the round count of the barrel.
