Barrel length makes a big difference, especially in the “high velocity” 22 long rifle rounds. I tested a variety of 22lr ammo in three Marlin 39’s (39A with a 24″ barrel, a 39 Mountie with a 20″ barrel and a 39TDS with a 16″ barrel). The 24″ barrel had the highest velocity in every HV 22lr brand I tested. CCI Mini Mag 40g averaged 1255 fps in the 24″ barrel, 1225 in the 20″ barrel and 1221 in the 16″ barrel. I’ve always wished the ammo boxes listed barrel lengths used to get their numbers.

Gotta love the marketing schemes. I wonder of the velocities where out of a rifle. That could possibly make up the 200 FPS but that is alot.
