The wind is my biggest hurdle to shooting longer distances and getting better groups. One minute it’s blowing 5mph from one direction, then the next it’s blowing 25 from the other. That’s why I’ve limited my shooting to just 200 yards, so far. But I’m going to attempt 400 soon, and try to judge the wind better.
Nice rifle and great story to go with it, I know you are proud to own it an I can tell it means a lot to you. Nothing wrong with the Glenfield line of rifles, there just more affordable than the top line model but shoot just the same. You’re going to enjoy shooting cast lead in that 30-30 it’s one of the easiest caliber to get cast lead to shoot great in without much trouble. The old Remington ammo is from back in the 40s? I believe the ammo is from the 60′-70’s period. My Uncle bought the rifle in the early 70’s, if memory serves me correctly, and he was never one to go out and just shoot for fun (his words). My Uncle was only 10 years older than me, and we were always more like Brothers, so the significance of owning his rifle has a special place with me. It seems that the old ammo had a little more punch than the newer stuff, and when I get the chance to run it through a chronograph, I’ll get a better idea. Thanks… Read more »
