Shooting the 44 Special cast with the large round hollow point, 1:40 alloy with a BHN of 8.0 into Clear Ballistics Gel from my S&W 29 with a 6.5″ barrel. This series is a long experiment testing powder coated cast lead hollow point bullets made from various alloys and fired at various velocities.

Sure am glad I didn’t bet on the results before I watched the video. I would have lost. Thanks for another great video!

Love the Dirty Harry reference. It’s amazing that close to 1000fps you didn’t get any expansion. But looking at the design, as I commented on your lower powered loads with the same designed bullet, theres a lot of surface around the hollow point, and it is probably the bullet design that prevents the expansion. Unlike your penta designed bullets. Those open beautifully.

I would have bet on at least some expansion at 8 bhn. Do you have any pentas left that you could load up with the same load? It would be interesting to see if the penta cavity would expand at with the exact same load.

Another interesting result, though not what you were hoping to see. So far, you’re making a penta-believer out of me. Those bullets really did the job!

Interesting, James – would have thought you’d get the old nose flatten expansion with that BHN. Thanks for the video and the info… Have a great day, Steve
