44 Magnum (1360 fps), Large Hollow Point, BHN 8.0, Bare Gel (PC HP Test)

(This video was first posted to YouTube on May 28, 2017.)

Shooting the 44 Magnum cast with the large round hollow point, 1:40 alloy with a BHN of 8.0 into Clear Ballistics Gel from my S&W 29 with a 6.5″ barrel. This series is a long experiment testing powder coated cast lead hollow point bullets made from various alloys and fired at various velocities.

Thanks! That’s more like what I always do. Start to slow then get going to fast and have to put the brakes on. 😂😂😂 H110 is one of my favorite powders. Thanks again!

I guess you found your expansion! You’re zeroing in in a good happy medium for this design. You might want to consider something a bit more substantial to tie down your gel blocks, than the twine!

I was thinking more along the lines of like 1100 to 1150 fps, but what do I know. I don’t own a 44. I do own a 357 and that is what has me so interested in this series. At what point do the hollow cavities need to be to ensure expansion and at what velocity do they need to be going, at said cavity, to expand without fragmentation. Seems the Penta hollow points are better suited to lower velocity expansion at this particular BHN.

Well, at least now I know. Not sure what I know, but it is something.
