44 Magnum (1115 fps), Large Hollow Point, BHN 8.0, Bare Gel (PC HP Test)

Shooting the 44 Magnum cast with the large round hollow point, 1:40 alloy with a BHN of 8.0 into Clear Ballistics Gel from my S&W 29 with a 6.5″ barrel. This series is a long experiment testing powder coated cast lead hollow point bullets made from various alloys and fired at various velocities.

That’s quite the load. You can’t ask for better than that. Yikes. Nice work all the way around. I told my oldest son about all of your 44 testing with the different shaped hollow points and BHN and he said “WOW that is crazy, it’s awesome, but tons and tons of work. That is exactly what I expected. Not too fast, not too slow. Soft lead and a good powder coat making for a good cast defensive load. Now just waiting to see how they do through the stacked denim into the gel. My thought is they will clog and tumble a bit.

How does the coating affect the remelting of the lead ? Does it float to the top to be drawn off or does it stay locked in with the lead ?
