38 Spl +P, Hollow Point, BHN 8.7, Bare Gel (PC HP Test)

Shooting the 38 Special +P cast with a hollow point from the 1:25 alloy with a BHN of 8.7 into Clear Ballistics Gel from my Ruger LCR. This series is a long experiment testing powder coated cast lead hollow point bullets made from various alloys and fired at various velocities.

Very cool! So if you load them using black powder you should get very similar performance and have a smoke screen to hid behind.👍 just watched FortuneCookie’s video. That’s were that idea came for. 🤭 lol

They look to be at their widest point at this velocity…it will be interesting to see whether they continue to widen or just start folding over and tucking the outer edge back towards the shank of the cast.
872fps & 8.7bhn is the perfect application of the rule of thumb<(1bhn/100 fps) in this video…widest expansion(? we'll see ?) but this is also in the center of the speed window too.
