(This video was first posted to YouTube on December 15, 2017.)

Shooting the 45 ACP cast with the round hollow point into Clear Ballistics Gel from my 1911. This series is a long experiment testing powder coated cast lead hollow point bullets made from various alloys and fired at various velocities.

The bullet mold is the “MP 452-200 HP 4 cav. NO LUBE GROOVE” mold from https://www.mp-molds.com/e-shop/molds/hollow-points-molds/mp-452-200-hp-4-cav-no-lube-groove

Difficult to see on a phone, but were the bullets turning around in your specially trained singing gel blocks?
I have GOT to get a second mortgage and buy a few of these molds! I went back to your video from last year, and those pentas are gorgeous! And just the weight that I like to shoot. I never was a traditionalist, thinking that 230gr was the only bullet to shoot. I enjoy 200gr much better. Another great video, Bacon!

I wondered about the velocity as well. I think 100 yard goal is pushing the average hits for a gun fight but what the heck. I am curious about standard lead mixtures vs what you are testing. I was lucky when I used to cast bullets. I had an “in” at the local newspaper and received about 100 pounds of linotype lead. My bullets did not deform and I am not sure I really needed gas checks. But nowadays I buy my cast bullets. Looking forward to the higher velocities in the .45 ACP! Thanks for all the hard and… Read more »

I wondered what the point was of starting out so low in velocity … good point.
I have to expand my horizons beyond SD rounds and get the overall picture.

I love this series and I am very happy you brought out the .45 auto. When all these tests are put into a documentary movie, the title should be “The Song of the Whistling Gel Block”. It is so cool to see the results and how the velocity and BHN effect expansion. I need to figure out how I can get some books in a box or something so I can test some of my unknown BHN round nose 230 grain PC .45 auto bullets. Great video and thank you for all the time and effort you have put into… Read more »
